· The agricultural communications career development event aims to excite and inspire students to develop essential skills relevant to the communications industry. Students will be equipped with strong communication skills and will have developed the ability to work collaboratively to communicate and advocate agriculture.
· The Tennessee FFA Agricultural Sales Career Development Event aims to evaluate and demonstrate skills essential for an individual to be successful in an agricultural sales career. Students will also develop an understanding of the opportunities available in the sales industry. The process of selling agricultural products is essential for the production and marketing of agricultural products.
· The purpose of the Tennessee FFA Agronomy Career Development Event is to create interest and promote understanding in agronomy by providing opportunities for recognition through the demonstration of skills and proficiencies. It also gives students an opportunity to explore career opportunities available in agronomy and encourages students to pursue careers in agronomy.
· The purpose of the Tennessee FFA Conduct of Chapter Meeting Leadership Development Event is to introduce seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-grade FFA members to parliamentary procedure as they learn how to conduct efficient meetings and build their communication skills. Agriculture is a highly technical and ever-changing industry on which everyone is dependent. We will maintain agriculture as our nation’s number one industry only if we understand the importance of different agrisciences, marketing strategies, safe food production regulations, and continuous research to improve agriculture. Strong, relevant agriscience programs are one way we can maintain our nation’s agricultural edge.
· The FFA Creed outlines the organization’s beliefs regarding the industry of agriculture, FFA membership and the value of citizenship and patriotism. The Creed is recited by FFA members as part of the requirements to earn the Greenhand FFA Degree. The purpose of the Creed speaking leadership development event is to develop the public speaking abilities of seventh, eighth and ninth grade FFA members as well as to develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in the FFA degree program.
· The purpose of the Tennessee FFA Dairy Cattle Handlers Activity is to recognize the contributions of the handlers in presenting each animal to its best advantage in the evaluation of the dairy cows and heifers during the Tennessee FFA Dairy Cattle Management and Evaluation Career Development Event.
· The purpose of the Tennessee FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management Career Development Event is to provide a competitive event for agricultural education students that emphasizes skills in dairy cattle management and evaluation.
· The Tennessee FFA Employment Skills Leadership Development Event is designed for FFA members to develop, practice, and demonstrate skills needed for employment in the agriculture industry. Each part of the event simulates, as closely as possible, real-world activities that real-world employers use.
· The Tennessee FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership Development Event is designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express themselves on a given subject without having prepared or rehearsed its content in advance. This event allows FFA members to formulate their remarks for presentation in a very limited time.
· The Tennessee FFA Farm and Agribusiness Management Career Development Event provides competition that fosters information assimilation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for successful business management. The skills learned in this event can be used to successfully manage a farm, agribusiness, pursue agricultural business careers and can be applied to personal financial management. The Tennessee FFA Farm and Agribusiness Management Career Development Event enhances and encourages opportunities for all participants to receive instruction that develops business management and entrepreneurial skills.
· The Tennessee FFA Floriculture Career Development Event is designed to create an interest in career preparation for all current and future aspects of the floriculture industry through leadership development and hands-on technical skill development using industry standards delivered through the agricultural education curriculum. Floriculture is a discipline of horticulture concerned with cultivating flowering and ornamental plants for gardens and the floral industry. The floriculture industry encompasses the following areas: • Greenhouse and field production and management. • Garden center and floral shop management. • Floral design and management.
· The purpose of the Tennessee FFA Horse Evaluation Career Development Event is to: • Promote the study of and interest in equine science, selection, care and well-being, management and production through the agricultural education curriculum. • Encourage experiential learning through practical skills, critical thinking and applied knowledge. • Provide recognition for those who have demonstrated skills and competencies as a result of instruction in equine science.
· The livestock evaluation career development event provides the opportunity to learn and apply livestock industry and production priorities through evaluating and selecting beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats.
· The marketing plan career development event is designed to assist students with developing practical skills in marketing through creating and presenting a marketing plan. Students research and present a marketing plan for an agricultural product, supply or service. Students will experience a client-consultant relationship that further connects them to their community and prepares them for potential future careers in marketing.
· The objectives of the Tennessee FFA Meats Evaluation and Technology Career Development Event are to: • Develop employment skills for students who are interested in exploring or pursuing career opportunities in the meat animal industry. • Assist the local agricultural education instructor in motivating students to become knowledgeable consumers of meat animal products and/or involved in the industry of meat animal marketing and merchandising. • Develop high school students’ analytical skills, critical thinking strategies and understanding of appropriate meat terminology. • Develop high school students’ abilities to evaluate meat animal products in order to optimize economic returns to producers and industry as well as to meet the needs of the consumer. Develop cooperation and communication skills in high school students.
· The purpose of the Tennessee FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event is to promote career interest, encourage proficiency development and recognize excellence in participants of the event which includes all aspects of the industry to produce, market, utilize and maintain landscape plants (woody and herbaceous plants and turf grasses), as well as related production and landscaping products, equipment and services including design.
· The purpose of the parliamentary procedure leadership development event is to encourage students to learn to participate in a business meeting and meetings of organized societies effectively and to assist in developing their leadership, research, problem-solving skills and critical-thinking skills.
· The Tennessee FFA Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event simulates learning activities related to production and management, processing, marketing, food safety, and poultry product quality.
· The Tennessee FFA Prepared Public Speaking Leadership Development Event is designed to develop leadership, communication, and citizenship skills by providing member participation in agricultural public speaking activities.
· The quiz bowl contest aims to excited and educate students regarding FFA knowledge. It better educates students regarding general knowledge regarding the National FFA Organization.
· The purpose of the veterinary science career development event is to promote college and career readiness by providing students with opportunities to develop technical knowledge and demonstrate practical skills in the field of veterinary science.
